Hi I'm Skylar Berliner, I am a fourth year undergraduate student at School of the Art Institute of Chicago pursuing a Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree. I am focused in the Art and Technology and Sculpture Departments exploring kinetics, metal, microcontrollers, motors, natural objects, softness, wearables, etc.
I admit, I want to make cool things. Things that are intuitively captivating to every audience. The activated object communicates differently than a stationary one. The mind perceives movement with life, the sound of the motor as the heartbeat, the wires as the veins, the gestures as signals. The forms in nature are familiar and beautiful, their movements wavy and fluctuating. Metal can be earthy and grounded while also being luminescent and sharp. My work develops with materials and processes that I am intimidated by, but also captivated with.
