A Microbial Fuel Cell uses microorganisms in (in this case) mud, collecting electrons, oxygen, and protons to create
voltage. The voltage from this MFC is read and if voltage is being created, the peristaltic pump with water the plant
being grown out of it. Representing the cyclical relationship between nature and technology, the MFC takes the form of a
nuclear fuel reactor commenting on power plants' effects on the environment.
The machine transforms into a moving being by lifting its normally stationary arm and exploring its space. The user
controls the arm and the original light and motor attached to the machine through the pressure sensor in the pedal. The
sewing machine takes on a new life by altering the mechanism and removing most of the external shell. As one of the
first industrial machines placed in the home, it is often disguised to fit its surroundings. This machine breaks out of
that shell revealing its industrial qualities and removing its purpose.
